Were you ever the last few to finish 1500m at school, in the snow, a few hours after [daughter of famous footballer] has already made her way home? Why on earth have I chosen to run 5000m for fun? I must be mad, join me...

Shocked!

Yeah yeah, still no running. But just got the quickest job rejection ever. Only filled in the first bit (which uni & what you got for your degree) and it said

"you did not meet our minimum requirements, you might as well just save everyone's time and go away"

or something to that effect. I wish they'd told me that before I spent a good hour looking at their bloody website, ***kers.

le pan

DAY 8 cont:

After a while I stopped checking for breaks in the weather.

DAY 9: badmo

Reeeeeeally nice weather, so no excuse other than my book was more interesting. Made up for by 100 mins of badminton (we were late again).

DAY 10:

Training plan gone down the pan. Yet another day just sitting about & reading. World according Garp. Need a nice place to run for me to actually grow to enjoy it. The block is boring & mildly worrying security wise.

Raining Kittens, where's that mattress?

WEEK 2, DAY 7:

Nothing special yesterday, except for whispers through the grapevine of a possible petrol strike and mum wanting oranges from the supermarket made excuses for me to drive & learn to fill the car with juice. While mum shopped, I went round and round the empty car park practising to park in a bay going forward. Still crap at it but perfect reverse into it.

DAY 8:

First day off shop in aages (except for party) cos finally, our helper is back! Yes, I've done NOWT all day. Got to go for a jog today but it is absolutely peeing it down. If it were kittens, saving them with a little mattress would be futile. See if it stops long enough for a very very short run.

Re-Learn to Breathe

DAY 6:

First off, who needs Joe Ma/Milky Way when you got a fantastic big sister? She not only got muscle rub on her hands for my benefit but also got rid of a knot in my right shoulder. I told her she should massage for a living & charge £30 an hour for it.

Anyhoo, what a lovely day it was and what a shame I spent most of it inside, behind a counter. As soon as I got home, did warm up & drank water (I learn) and went for a quick jog. Only stayed out for about 9mins in total. Jogged for 4-5 mins before breathing became a difficulty. Walked a bit & jogged home.

You know when you get water all up your nose when you go swimming and there's a strange burning sort of sensation by your eyes? I get that when I go jogging. Any suggestions to learn how to breathe? Qi gong maybe????

PLAN FOR NEXT WEEK:
Run Tue, Thu, Sat/Sun with aim to go a little further even if I walk some of it.

No runnin' but achin'

DAY 5: aching

A run? Lucky that I got out of bed at all!! I haven't stopped being lazy overnight you know.

I could hardly lift my chopsticks lastnight and being Saturday today, spent the morning carting heavy mags & papers. Aching all down my back, muscles I didn't know existed; just sitting up straight is a feat. I feel more equipped for weight lifting than a 5km run right now. I know, I'm giving myself excuses. Yet at the same time feel pain.

Received my number & T-shirt today though. Must remember, doing this for a good cause and getting fit.

Shorter working day tmr, should go for a short jog. No, not should, will. Now where's that muscle rub?

How I wouldn't mind Joe Ma or Milky Way (sorry, been watching The Academy 2005) to give us physio-therapeutic back rub right now, oh and no work tomorrow. Sigh....

Green Fingers

DAY 4: gardening

Scheduled for a run today but getting up early in the morning for one is not going to happen any time soon. Then on return from work, I said I'd help mow the jungle out the back since the weather was good. Strimming the sort of job that isn't particularly physically demanding at the time (in fact, quite good fun massacreing weeds) but causes a few million micro tears in those muscles you seldom use. This will hurt in the morning. Not sure it was a helpful substitute for a run.

Advice from Captain Birdseye

DAY 3: REST

Captain of the uni running team (an ex) gave me some advice today. Something along the lines of:

See what you can do now & work on it. If you can run for 5 mins then run for 5 mins and then after a couple of days 6 mins, few days later 7 mins and work it up slowly. Make sure to run regularly, about 3 times a week but listen to your body, if it's tired don't kill yourself.

I liked this advice cos today, I am absolutely shattered. I sat down to read the paper (for jobs) when I got home and fell asleep within the first few articles til it got dark. No idea why I am so tired.

Also keep a diary, it's useful.

Hence the blog

Null

DAY 2:

Sticking with the www.getfitstayfit.co.uk training plan, I decided not to jog today but to move about at badminton. We arrived 12 mins late & the centre had given our court away. Le poo.

Nevermind, I'm aching anyway. Another 10 min jog tomorrow.

Unfit Chick

WEEK 1, DAY 1:

You probably guessed it; I didn't get up this morning.

I really should have, it was gloriously sunny before thunder & lightning struck at midday. Went for quick run around the block this evening in the rain. I decided this wasn't a bad thing, cos then if I run like a girl (which I do) I can pretend I'm just in a rush to get inside.

When I set off, leaving dad at the door asking if I should do a warm up first, I felt young and fit; a 10min jog should be no probs...

2.5mins in and I am reduced to a walk. Seeing as this fits in with the free avdised training routine on www.raceforlife.org * I walked for a further 3mins & jogged home.

Made me realise that it's a good job my training starts 13 weeks in advance, I am SO unfit. No CV work for at least 2 years since I stopped going to Taekwondo class.

(*)Week 1: Mon+Wed+Fri - 3min jog, 3min walk, 3min jog.

Let the Chickens Run!

Training will commence tmr morning, if I ever get to sleep, with a small jog around the block, max 10mins. Pref no sweat broken.
